We’ve talked at length about the PS5 DualSense controller and how it’s poised to revolutionize how we play video games. If you’re looking to get your hands on one of these new controllers, you may be wondering how to go about setting it up. Don’t worry—we’re here to help! The process of using a DualSense controller with your PC is simple and can be completed within minutes.
Step 1: Setting up the Connector
The first step is to set up the connector that will allow you to use the PS5 controller on your PC. You’ll need to connect the controller to the micro USB port on the back of the PS5 console. Once it’s connected, you’ll need to press and hold the PlayStation button for three seconds. This will put the controller into pairing mode. Next, head over to bluetooth settings on your computer and scan for new devices.
When the PS5 controller shows up, click it and select Pair. At this point, Windows 10 should prompt you with a message saying Do you want this device? Select Yes and the two should be paired together at this point. If not, try restarting the process by unplugging and plugging in the controller. If it still doesn’t work, you might have a hardware issue with either your console or your computer. Step 2: Setting up Sixense: After all of that work connecting things together, now we’re going to go ahead and download Sixense so we can get some motion controls working on our game.
After downloading Sixense (make sure you’re using version 1.3 or higher), open up their software from the downloads folder and hit Run when prompted. Head over to Settings > Enable Motion Tracking Mode (two thirds down) > OK . That should do everything!
Step 2: Installing MotionInJoy
You can use your PS5 controller on your PC by installing the MotionInJoy program. This will allow you to use the controller wirelessly. MotionInJoy is available for free online. Simply download and install the program, then follow the instructions on-screen to set it up. You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. You’ll know the installation was successful if you hear two beeps when pressing the power button on your controller or if it appears in Devices and Printers in Windows 10.
If not, try uninstalling MotionInJoy and reinstalling it again. If this still doesn’t work, there’s a chance that the driver software isn’t working properly. To fix this, first make sure that your device is plugged into an active USB port. If that doesn’t work, go to Device Manager and check under Universal Serial Bus controllers. Double-click any of the items listed here and select Update Driver Software.
Click Browse my computer for driver software then click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. In the next window select Sony from the Manufacturer list and click Next. After clicking Install, wait for the installation process to complete. The last step is testing whether your controller works with games and apps that require one.
All you have to do is plug in your PS5 controller via a micro USB cable (not included) and see if it registers as a gamepad. If so, congratulations! Your PS5 DualShock controller should now work as intended with no lag whatsoever on your PC.
Step 3: Calibrating your Kinect
The first time you use your controller, you’ll need to calibrate your Kinect. To do this, go to Settings > Devices & Accessories and select the controller. Then, follow the on-screen instructions. If you’re having trouble, make sure that there’s nothing blocking the sensor or that your controller is too far away from the sensor. You should also check for updates to make sure that you have the latest version of the controller firmware. If you don’t have any updates available, then you may need to reinstall the software.
To calibrate your controller using voice commands: Go to Settings > Devices & Accessories and select the controller. Select Voice Commands and choose Start Calibration. Next, speak in front of your Kinect while pressing down all buttons at once until prompted by an on-screen message. Finally, confirm with OK when prompted again by an on-screen message.
Step 4: Testing it out
Now that you have your controller paired with your PC, it’s time to test it out. Fire up your favourite game and see how it feels. The DualSense controller has haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, which can add a whole new level of immersion to your gaming experience.
If you’re not used to these features, it might take some time to get used to them. But we think you’ll be impressed with how much they can enhance your gameplay. One other important thing to note is that the DualShock 5 is designed for use with PlayStation games only. It will not work properly if you plug it into your PC. So don’t make this mistake!
Step 5: In case something goes wrong
If you’re having trouble using the PS5 DualSense controller on your PC, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure that you have the latest version of the controller’s firmware. You can update the firmware by going to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Update Controller. If that doesn’t work, try resetting your controller by holding down the Share and PlayStation buttons for three seconds. If neither of those solutions work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the controller’s drivers.
