Microsoft Edge, the new web browser that comes with Windows 10, makes it easy to choose a search engine to use as your default search provider. This way, every time you perform a search in Microsoft Edge, you’ll be using your preferred search engine instead of Bing or other options. It’s super easy to do, but it requires first changing your default search engine in Microsoft Edge settings and then choosing the browser’s custom option when setting your default search engine. Let’s get started!

- In the Advanced settings section, find the Search in the address bar with box and click or tap the box.
- A list of all your installed search engines appears.
- Click or tap on the search engine you want to use as your default, then click or tap Set as default.

If you’re using Microsoft Edge as your default web browser, you may want to change your default search engine. Maybe you’re a diehard Google fan and want to use that instead of Bing. Or maybe you prefer DuckDuckGo for its privacy features. Regardless of your reasons, here’s how to change your default search engine in Microsoft Edge. Open the internet options menu by typing Internet Options into the Cortana search bar or going to Settings > System > Internet Options. In the Internet Properties window that opens, go to the General tab on the left-hand side and click on Manage add-ons.
Select your preferred search engine
Whether you prefer Google, Bing, Yahoo, or another search engine, you can set it as your default in Microsoft Edge. Here’s how:
- Open Microsoft Edge and click the three dots in the top right corner.
- Click Settings.
- In the left sidebar, click View advanced settings.
- Under Search in the address bar with, click the drop-down menu and select your preferred search engine.
- If you want your preferred search engine to open when you click the search icon (magnifying glass) instead of using Cortana, turn off Have Cortana assist me in search across the web.
- Restart Microsoft Edge for your changes to take effect.
Click Ok
- Launch Microsoft Edge and click on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Scroll down to the Search in the address bar with section and click on the Change search engine button.
- A new window will pop up with a list of all the available search engines. Select the one you want to use as your default and click on the Set as default button.
