Get Rid of the Lock Screen in Windows 10 with this Simple Trick

Windows 10 includes some great features, but it also includes one we don’t necessarily like: the lock screen. If you want to disable the lock screen in Windows 10, there are several ways to do so. In this article, we’ll go over how to get rid of the lock screen in Windows 10 in both easy and advanced ways, letting you decide which method best suits your needs and skillset.

How to get rid of the lock screen

If you’re sick of having to unlock your PC every time you want to do something, there’s a way to get rid of the lock screen. All you need to do is change one simple setting and you’ll never see the lock screen again.

1) Head to Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen.

2) Change When I sign in or close all apps on a screen from Show my desktop background on the lock screen to Don’t show my desktop background on the lock screen.

3) Click OK. You should now be able to sign in without being shown any notifications or other information that you would have been shown on the lock screen before.

Turn off your PC

If you’re like me, you’re probably sick of the lock screen in Windows 10. It’s an annoying extra step that just gets in the way, especially when you’re just trying to get to your desktop quickly. Luckily, there’s a simple setting you can change to disable the lock screen and make your life a little bit easier.

Here’s how First, open up the Settings app (click on it in the Start menu or press Win+I). Next click on Privacy under System. Now scroll down until you see Lock screen settings. Click it. You’ll see three options: Picture password, PIN and Sign-in options. What we want is Sign-in options at the bottom. Select that option and then uncheck Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart. And that’s it! You’ll no longer have to deal with the lock screen on your computer anymore.

Restart your PC

If you’re like me, you’re probably sick of the lock screen on Windows 10. It’s an extra step that just gets in the way, especially if you’re using a desktop PC. Thankfully, there’s a simple trick you can use to disable the lock screen. Just follow these steps – Restart your computer (Windows will warn you about making changes)

  • Press and hold the Shift key while clicking Restart again
  • Select Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> Startup Settings -> Restart
  • When it reboots, release the Shift key and click F4 or go to Start > Shutdown > Restart

Log into your PC as a local admin

Logging into your PC as a local administrator is simple and easy to do. You can do this by clicking on the Start button, then click on Run, type in lusrmgr.msc and hit Enter. This will open up the Local Users and Groups manager. From here, double-click on the Administrators group and add your username to the list.

Now, close out of that window and open up the Control Panel. Go to User Accounts, then click on Change your account type. Select Administrator from the list and click OK. You will now be able to disable the lock screen from the Personalization settings in Windows 10.

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and type gpedit.MSC. This will open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  2. In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization.
  3. In the right pane, double-click Do not display lock screen.
  4. Select Enabled in the pop-up window, then click OK.
  5. Close the Local Group Policy Editor window and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
  6. Once your computer has restarted, you’ll notice that there’s no longer a lock screen when you log in!

 

Select Run

The lock screen is one of those Windows 10 features that you either love or hate. While it can be helpful to see the time and date at a glance, some people find it annoying. If you’re in the latter camp, there’s good news: you can disable the lock screen easily.

Simply select Run from the start menu and type cmd. When Command Prompt opens, type gpedit.msc into the prompt and hit enter. Now navigate to Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization > Do not display lock screen (and make sure the box next to it is checked). And that’s all there is to it!
